Christian Education
The Christian
Education program is fast growing at KUPC. We offer a variety of Sunday
School classes ranging from the 3 year old class to the adult classes.
Our church year encompasses great opportunities for the children such as
Vacation Bible School and Summer Children’s church. In addition to these
Christian Education opportunities, KUPC provides many other fellowship
events throughout the year such as the winter sleepover and back to
school campout. Come worship with us and join our growing force of
children and adults serving God.
Christian Education is a
ministry priority at KUPC. There are Church School classes for all ages
on Sunday morning beginning at 9:45am. Attention is paid to age
appropriate material and multiple intelligence learning as lessons are
developed.
A
Nursery
for children through age 2 is provided each Sunday. The Nursery is
designed to be a warm and nurturing atmosphere to welcome the youngest
members of God's family. Nursery attendants are available from 9:45am
through the conclusion of Worship.
A
Pre-School Class
for children ages 3 through 5 is taught by Sarah Stump using Bible Quest
curriculum. It focuses on key Bible stories using a wide variety of
storytelling, crafts, and play.
A modified
Rotation Model Sunday School
program is designed for elementary age children. Nine to Twelve Bible
stories are studied in age-appropriate depth each year in a format of
storytelling, art, science, games, computer activities, drama, video and
cooking. A rotation fo teachers and volunteers lead the classes.
Middle School
Youth
use Bible Quest curriculum which focuses on more advanced Bible passages
and their application to life as experienced by Middle School age
Youth. The class is led by Mary McMillan.
The Senior High
Class
is led by Steve Payne and Brent Sears. The Youth focus on Biblical
discussion using the lectionary and a wide range of resources.
There are three
Adult Classes
that meet each Sunday morning. Each class has a unique format in an
attempt to reach a variety of adult interests:
The Geneva
Class
meets in the Parlor and is led by the Rev. Ken King. He says that his
curriculum "is the Bible". The class format is a mixture of lecture and
discussion.
Jeff Brown leads a class in the Library known to all as
The Men's Class
which is open to persons of either gender interested in the call topic.
The class generally uses The Present Word Curriculum, but does on
occasion branch out to other video and written materials.
The
Thoughtful Christian Class
is moderated by the Rev. John Davis. The class meets in the Fellowship
Hall and studies a wide range of topics. Lively discussions and
learning activities are the benchmarks of the class.
Outside the Church School Hour there are a wide range of educational
opportunities available for children, youth and adults at KUPC.
Second
Hour
Following the Time With Young Disciples in Worship, children ages 3
through first grade are dismissed to Second Hour. Volunteers lead the
children in age-appropriate activities that reflect the theme of Worship
in the Sanctuary.
Fun-At
-Church Group
This group is a mission based program for children in K-5th grade. The
group meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 5:15pm to 7pm.
Programs are thematic and culminate with a monthly mission emphasis.
Table
Celebration Classes
These classes are a three part series of Communion Preparation for
children and their parents or adult sponsors. Classes are offered in
the fall of each year and are open to children in 1st - 6th grades.
Participants are led in age-appropriate study of Baptism and Communion
by the Pastor and Director of Christian Education. The finale of the
class is the opportunity for the class to prepare the Communion bread
for the worshipping community.
Vacation
Bible School
VBS is held annually in late summer for children and youth. VBS 2007
will be July 30 - August 3, 9am - 11:30am. The theme is "Bible
Characters on Parade". Biblical dramatist, Norm Arrington, will lead
our studies of Old Testament people who were called to go on a journey
for God. It will be enchanced with games, crafts, projects and music.
Plan to join the learning and the fun as participant or leadership. Mr.
Arrington has a special gift of drama that appeals to all ages.
Youth
Group
The KUPC Youth Group is an opportunity for Middle School and Senior
High Youth to gather for fellowship, service and growth. A monthly
schedule is published with opportunities for meetings and projects.
Outreach by the group includes outings, mission trips, retreats and
community involvement.
Confirmation Class
Confirmation Classes are offered yearly for youth in 7th grade and
older. The classes meet monthly October through May with two additional
weekend retreats and a service project. Youth who complete the classes
and choose to join the church by public profession of faith are
confirmed on Pentecost Sunday.
Women's
Bible Study
The Women's Bible Study meets weekly on Friday at 9:30am in the Cleek
Parlor at the church. This group enjoys an intensive Bible study and
fellowship time. Their studies are varied and are selected by the
group.
